Change is in the air for me, both in my personal life and in my career. Like the wind-tossed leaves falling to the ground lately I’ve been feeling scattered by forces out of my control.
On a personal note my parents, who have lived two-doors away from me for the past three years have decided to move to a senior home. For the past three years I’ve enjoyed the comfort of being able to drop into their home any time. They’ve been my best friends and support system in a thousand different ways. They’ll still be there for me, but I know the change of living arrangements will change things for us.
On a professional note, I’m still thrilled to be writing for Silhouette and Harlequin, but I will no longer be writing romantic suspense novels for NAL. I’m currently working on a vampire series, a romantic suspense series and a young adult vampire series – scattered, that’s me.
I feel as if I’ve been blown off course and am now navigating new waters. It’s both exciting and a little bit frightening.
But, if there’s one thing I’ve learned after twenty years in this business it’s that I’m a survivor. Change can hopefully equal growth and I know I’m up to any challenge!

I know that change is always immanent and that sometimes we either roll with it and grow or we stagnate, but damn it sure hurts to let go of the familiar, doesn’t it? Best with all those series – can’t wait to read ’em!

YES! I can’t wait to read some of your paranormal romance. That WILL be a change. How exciting.
And I’m backward from you. I just moved back closer to my parents. These days, I’ll come home from work and there will be a note on my door. “I put some chicken and noodles in your fridge, Love Mom.” I know I’ll miss that when it has to change.

Enjoy each and every one of those noodles! Each time my parents drive past my house they honk and I know I’m going to miss those honks when they move. (although I’m sure the neighbors will be thrilled)

As I get older the one thing I’ve learned is that fighting change inhibits a chance to grow. After being diagnosed with a chronic illness twelve years ago and not liking the treatment options, I started investigating alternative methods. It’s an ongoing process and I find I’m always up for learning something new and that’s translated to my writing. Just keep chanting: change is good:-)

And I’m four days smoke free, although I’m eating everything that doesn’t move.

ouch…change. I don’t like it much but then I moved back to the Midwest for exactly that…seasons. Joe and I lived in SanDiego for five years and I missed the season and big trees in my yard. I think seasons act as a reminder that life changes. It’s how one sees them as good or bad that makes the difference. So, Carla, I don’t know who weathers change better than you….Before long things will be smelling like roses…wait, is that a damask rose I already sniff coming from your website.
Changes for me…well, I’m giving up pushing my Vesuvius sisters and am going back to Roman Britain. Jess says that is the better of the three. It was hard shifting gears but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Change is never easy for anyone. I avoid it when I can. But I do know that you’re one of the most awesome women I know and if anyone can handle a change, it’s you. Love this blog, love hearing your perspective and I’ll stop gushing so that you aren’t inclined to get a restraining order on me. You know I’m one of your biggest fans in a not so freakish way.

If you can adjust to the changes you will grow in depth with your writing and within yourself.
Enjoy your lovely parents while you can. There time with you is getting shorter so make the most of their time with you.
